Mines wrestling adds seven to recruiting class

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines wrestling head coach Austin DeVoe continues to build his program with the addition of seven recruits to join the team in fall 2021.

Mines welcomes Ryan Cody (Longwood, Fla./The Master’s Academy), Carson Dulitz (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley HS), Charlie Holub (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch HS), Avery Krippner (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central HS), Kagen Lawrence (Redmond, Ore./Redmond HS), Niko Mayo (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage HS), and Jackson Showalter (Cheney, Wash./Cheney HS). The seven join early-period signings Davion Chavez, Grayston DiBlasi, and Cody Thompson to make up DeVoe’s 10-man class.


RYAN CODY // 197 pounds // Longwood, Fla. // The Master’s Academy
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-time Florida state placer for The Master’s Academy … Compiled a 181-44 high school record including 43-3 with 33 pins as a senior on the way to a state runner-up finish at 195 pounds … Was also third as a sophomore … FAWA freestyle and Greco state champion … USMNC Greco national finalist … Also wrestled with the Seminole County Wrestling Club … National Honor Society member … Interested in majoring in chemical engineering.

CARSON DULITZ // 149 pounds // Shawnee, Kan. // Mill Valley HS
HIGH SCHOOL: 
Three-time Kansas state placer at Mill Valley HS … Placed sixth at 126 as a sophomore and fourth at 138 as a junior and senior … Led Mill Valley to the 2020 KSHSAA 6A state team title … Compiled an overall high school record of 86-44 with 39 pins, including 13-4 in his senior season and 30+ win sophomore and junior campaigns … Was a 2019 Kansas Cadet National Team member … Won the 2019 Kansas state Greco title and was the freestyle runner-up … Two-time KWCA All-Academic First Team selection … Four-year Academic Letterwinner … Four-year A Honor Roll student … AP Scholar with Honors … Kansas Honor Scholar … Interested in majoring in mechanical engineering.

CHARLIE HOLUB // 197 pounds // Dallas, Texas // Bishop Lynch HS
HIGH SCHOOL: Team captain at Bishop Lynch HS (Texas) … Was the 2020 TAPPS and Texas Prep state champion at 220, and the 2021 TAPPS and Texas Prep state runner-up at 195 … Went 85-31 in his high school career … Prep Nationals qualifier … Also played football … Interested in majoring in mechanical engineering.

AVERY KRIPPNER // 184 pounds // Cumming, Ga. // Forsyth Central HS
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year team captain for Forsyth Central HS (Ga.) … Won the Georgia 7A 182-pound title in 2021 after an undefeated 26-0 season … Was a two-time state finalist, two-time sectional finalist and one-time champion, and three-time regional champion … Went 162-39 in his high school career … Two-time team MVP … Four-year letterwinner … Graduate of the STEM Academy within FCHS … NTHS member … Interested in majoring in chemical & biochemical engineering.

KAGEN LAWRENCE // 133 pounds // Redmond, Ore. // Redmond HS
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-time state placer for Redmond HS (Ore.) … Was a two-time Oregon state finalist and three-time district champion … 2020 Pac Coast runner-up and Coast Classic champion … Went 129-23 in three seasons … Earned his team’s Hammer Award and Harry Gobleman Excellence Award … Captain … Four-year letterwinner.

NIKO MAYO // 149 pounds // Anchorage, Alaska // South Anchorage HS
HIGH SCHOOL: State champion for South Anchorage HS (Alaska) … Won the 2021 Alaska state title at 152 and 2018 crown at 125, was runner-up at 135 in 2019, and fourth at 120 as a freshman in 2017 … Three-time Cook Inlet Conference regional champion … Also wrestled for the Alaska Avalanche Wrestling Association … University of Alaska Scholars Award recipient … Earned five Academic Gold Stars … Academic Letterwinner … Interested in majoring in computer science.

JACKSON SHOWALTER // 157/165 pounds // Cheney, Wash. // Cheney HS
HIGH SCHOOL: 
Standout at Cheney HS (Wash.) … In 2021, won the GSL 3A/4A 160-pound championship and was fourth at the WSWA Super State tournament … Is 102-25 through four seasons … Two-time state placer one one-time state finalist … Two-time district champion … Was the 2020 WIAA 2A regional champion at 152 … Team’s MVP in 2020 … Honor roll student … Interested in majoring in mining engineering.
