INDIANAPOLIS – Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa University expected to hear their names called when the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship field was announced on Monday, but Colorado Christian, which made a late run to reach the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship match, got an early present with its first tournament appearance since 2012.

All three RMAC teams in the tournament will travel to Texas for their first-round matches in the South Central Region on Friday, Dec. 6. MSU Denver is the region’s No. 3 seed and travels to Canyon, Texas, for its first-round outing against Texas Woman’s University. Colorado Mesa, the region’s No. 5 seed, and Colorado Christian, the No. 8 seed, travel to San Angelo, Texas. The Mavericks face No. 4 seed Dallas Baptist while the Cougars take on top-seeded Angelo State.

MSU Denver (27-2) is experienced at making tournament trips, and this season’s appearance is its 30th all-time and fifth straight. The Roadrunners are 19-29 in their tourney history, reaching the third round in the past three seasons but could not get past West Texas A&M each time. With a win next Friday, MSU Denver would face the West Texas A&M-UT Tyler contest winner.

Colorado Mesa (23-5) is in the tournament for the 12th time in program history and its fourth straight appearance. The Mavericks are 8-11 all-time in the tournament, most recently winning a first-round match in 2022 when they downed DBU in five sets.

Colorado Christian (19-10) is making only its second appearance in the tournament. The Cougars’ previous appearance came in 2012, when they lost in four sets to Colorado School of Mines.

Colorado Mesa and Colorado Christian are in the same bracket. If they both won next Friday, they would face one another in a rematch of their RMAC Volleyball Championship semifinal outing.
