COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado School of Mines athletic programs have earned five Brechler Awards from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, awarded to teams carrying the highest GPA in the league.
Mines baseball, football, men’s swimming, men’s indoor track & field, and men’s outdoor track & field all had the highest team GPAs in the conference in their respective sports.
Baseball notched an impressive 3.49 team GPA to earn their fourth award in five years and third in a row, the last two under head coach Robby Bales. Men’s swimming continued its dominance with its eighth consecutive honor thanks to their 3.32 team GPA, earning it for the first time under head coach Claire McDaniel. Football put together a 3.14 team GPA to win its third all-time award and second for Gregg Brandon, while the men’s track & field teams, with GPAs of 3.53 for indoors and 3.54 for outdoors, swept the awards for the first time since 2014-15 and third time overall, all with Matt Sparks at the helm.
The Brechler Awards are named for longtime RMAC commissioner Paul W. Brechler. The 2020-21 school year marks the eighth time they have been awarded; the Brechler Awards were not given out in 2020. Since the awards’ establishment, Oredigger teams have won 31 total honors.
